My Hairstory

I was 14 years old when I first put chemicals in my hair, I wanted a relaxer and much to my dismay, I was made to get a jheri curl. At the age of 16 I got the relaxer I longed for but this was on top of the jheri curl, and my hair became damaged and I had to cut it from past shoulder length into a short bob. Cutting my hair was never an issue for me as it always grew back and grew quickly, but in 2008 I noticed that my hair was thinning and not falling as it should, I tried to cover the thinning edges in an attempt to hold on to my length but it was a losing battle.

So in March 2009 I decided to start my natural hair journey, I had no patience for transitioning and instead did the big chop straight away, I used my husband’s clippers and took EVERYTHING off! I was unaware of how to look after my natural tresses and treated it much the same as would have done my relaxed hair. I coloured it and used what I thought was a natural relaxer, and had no idea of how to retain moisture. In August 2009 after failing to look after my hair the right way and after learning many lessons I did the big chop for a second time, and I have never looked back.
